An old farmer had been plowing with an ox and a mule teamed together. One day, the ox said to the mule,
“Let’s play sick today and take it easy.” But the mule said,
“No, we need to get our work done as soon as possible, for our master had no tractors like others.
The ox played sick anyway, and the farmer brought it fresh hay and corn and tried to make it comfortable.
When the mule came in from plowing that day, the ox asked how it went.
“We didn’t get quite as much done,” the mule said, “but we did a fair stretch.”
Then the ox asked, “What did the master say about me?” “Nothing to me” the mule replied.
“Since nothing was said, don’t you think of just resting tomorrow with me, you have good ground for lying low with me,
or you want to kill yourself before your time?” said the ox, but the mule said neither yes or no.
Thinking he had a good thing going, the ox decided to play sick again the next day.
When the mule returned from the field, the ox asked, “How did it go today?”
“All right,” the mule said, “but we didn’t get much done; I was lying down through out chewing my cord.”
“Well, that is okay, “the ox continued, “what did the master say about me today, for am sure he would had say something.”
“You know quiet well that he would said nothing to me” the mule answered sadly,
“but he did stop and have a long talk with Mr. Brown the butcher”
Before employment into an establishment, some staffs seems to be gentle, and looked serious, but few months or years, you would discovered that they have joined the lagging staffs. All the promises to be diligent, hard working, work under long pressure, would have been forgotten. There is nothing as frustrating as employing a staff to replace a bad egg among your staff and latter discovered that they are the same, or even worse than the one kicked out.
Am sure, you would have likely worked with an ox before. They don’t start out lazy; they just get bored… burned out… comfortable enough to take advantage of the company’s absence policy to the point where their coworkers are stuck picking up the slack and working harder than they should. And make no mistake, the coworkers know the score. No doubt they know the butcher, too.
There is no relationship without responsibilities. To whom much is given less is not expected. When you are in a place, make good impacts.
Companies need dependable, committed employees who can talk themselves into getting the job done even when they don’t feel like working. Payday shouldn’t be the chief motivation. Do you take pride in your work? Are you proud to be member of that establishment? What provokes putting your best to your work? The presence of your boss? Penalty for not been able to meet up the necessary target, what is it?
The real pros know how to motivate themselves before they start having bad days. They look at work differently, not just as a means of making a living, but as a;
(i.) Significant part of a living.
(ii.) Significant part of life.
Their particular mix of attitude, responsibility, cooperation, and accomplishment make them a valuable commodity in any organization.
Mr. Ife was knocked down buy a hit and run car while trying to register the upper grade students in the school he principal. Many things were said at his lying instate. His life was recommended for others to copy. According to some of his beneficiaries, he sometimes helped some pupils who are less privileged to pay their school fees, some students, would had stopped, schooling for a long time if not for him. He was trying to help some students who could not meet up with the payment of their final exams see what could be done to assist them, when he was knocked down.
A year latter some of those students helped by him, came to a popular radio station to announce a memorial lecture to be organized for him, not only that an account is to be open for people to donate money for his family and some less privilege students.
We all need not stand on the pulpit to preach the Bible, but we can live what the Book says out for the non church goers.
There is only one thing that the Bible says about us, and that has being my watch word since all these days, that is what I normally tell myself when I wake up in the morning. “For we are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should work in them.” Ephesians 2:10. You will only be remembered by what you have done. And just like the Master says “ He that endured to the end that shall be saved”.“…and establish Thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish Thou it. Psalm 90:17
